I was recently sent this article, which explores the link between student engagement and success in later life.
Contemporary learning can provide this engagement by allowing children opportunities to follow their interests, engage with their learning and maintain engagement via the creation of a learning attitude that equally values “mistakes” and success.
The only place I have experienced the explicit teaching of good learning behaviours, positive learning attitudes, persistence and engagement, and that mistakes are welcome have been in Contemporary Learning schools. These understandings are scaffolded by all teachers, all the way through from prep to year 6.
Take a moment for personal reflection… how often do you explicitly teach the children in your classroom these things?
